A Meets

A meets are competitive NVSL swim events held on Saturday mornings. Each team in a division swims against the other teams in that division once. Five regular A meets are held each season. These are referred to as "dual meets," since there are two teams swimming against each other. A Division Champion will be determined based on the outcome of these dual meets.

This season Lake Braddock is competing in Division 16 with Annandale, Brandywine, Herndon, Ilda, and Village West.

Swimmers are seeded for the events based on their previous times for that season. Selections are made based on official times and the needs of the team for each particular meet. A swimmer may be selected for up to two individual events and up to two relays. Swimmers do not get to choose their events for  A meets. The ultimate selection of swimmers is made by the Head Coach in cooperation with the Team Reps.

For A meets, the list of swimmers is finalized on Tuesday evening and will be shared with families via email. The list is shared with the other team on Thursday at the latest. There is very little time for last minute changes and revising the list of entries inevitably extends the working hours of the Head Coach and Team Rep. All swimmers should declare their eligibility for A meets on the team website at least 2 weeks prior to each A meet.

Each team fields three swimmers per age group for both boys and girls in the four individual strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly). There will also be one relay team per age group for both boys and girls, as well as one mixed-age relay for each. Not every swimmer will be asked to participate in each A Meet.

A swimmer earns 5 points for first place finishes,3 points for second place, and 1 point for third place in those meets. In relays, the winning team takes all 5 points. The team finishing with the most points wins the meet.

All Saturday meets start at 9:00 am unless otherwise announced. The meet warm-up times are generally as follows: the home team warms up from 8:00-8:20 am, and the away team warms up from 8:20-8:40 am, however exact arrival and warm up times will be communicated with families via the team newsletter prior to the meet.
